U.S. Paper Industry Reaches Recycling High in 2021

AF&PA announced 68% of all paper consumed in the United States was recycled in 2021 – a rate on par with the highest rate previously achieved. Additionally, the recycling rate for old corrugated containers (OCC) – commonly known as cardboard – increased.

Total Boxboard production in Q4 increased two percent compared to Q4 2020. It was up two percent when compared to the same twelve months of 2020. The boxboard operating rate was 94.1 percent, up 0.7 points from Q4 2020 and up 1.2 points year-to-date.
